Volvo China Open: The Stage is Set for a Historic 30th Edition in Shanghai
The DP World Tour’s Volvo China Open returns to Shanghai for its 30th anniversary, set to take place at the prestigious Enhance Anting Golf Club from April 17-20, 2025. With a prize fund of US$2,550,000, this historic tournament is a key stop on both the Race to Dubai and the Asian Swing. Among the standout competitors are several Hong Kong players, including Taichi Kho, who earned a professional tournament invitation, alongside Matthew Cheung, Jason Hak, Isaac Lam, and Xuzhong Li, who qualified through China Tour spots. Jeffrey Shen and Michael Wong secured their places via a qualifier in March, rounding out a strong contingent of local Hong Kong talent.
Taichi Kho steps into the spotlight as one of Hong Kong’s most promising golfers. Known for his consistency and composure under pressure, Kho has been in stellar form leading up to this event. His impressive T6 finish at the last Asian Tour event—featuring a strong international field that included LIV Golf players and major champions such as Patrick Reed and Sergio Garcia—has marked him as a player to watch. Competing against such high-caliber opponents, Kho showcased his ability to rise to the occasion, and he will look to carry that momentum into the Volvo China Open.
Matthew Cheung, another key contender from Hong Kong, enters the tournament with heightened expectations after securing both his Asian Tour and Challenge Tour cards this season—a testament to his hard work and determination. Cheung will look to build on his T48 finish at the International Series Macau presented by Wynn. This week provides him with an ideal platform to showcase his progress and compete alongside some of the regions & DP World Tour’s finest players.
Other Hong Kong players in the mix include Jason Hak, Isaac Lam, and Xuzhong Li, who qualified through the China Tour. Jeffrey Shen and Michael Wong secured their spots on merit via the March qualifier held at Enhance Anting Golf Club on Wednesday, March 19. They join Japanese golfer Kento Nakai, who also earned his place in the field after a solid performance in the same qualifier.

This year’s event also features homegrown Chinese stars such as Haotong Li and Wenyi Ding, both eager to make an impact on home soil. Li, a former champion of the Volvo China Open (2016), arrives in strong form following his victory at the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters earlier this season. Meanwhile, rookie sensation Ding, fresh off topping the Global Amateur Pathway Rankings, adds youthful energy to the field. Past champions Ashun Wu, Zhang Lianwei, and Zhang Jin further enrich the lineup, ensuring an exciting blend of experience and emerging talent.
With 38 Chinese golfers teeing it up at Enhance Anting Golf Club, the 2025 Volvo China Open promises to celebrate local heroes while showcasing global golfing excellence. For players like Taichi Kho and Matthew Cheung, this tournament offers a golden opportunity to shine on an international platform. As anticipation builds, all eyes will be on Shanghai to witness who rises to the occasion in this milestone edition of the iconic event.
